·         Take the time to reflect on your message and the objective that you have.

·         Make time to cut, and paste, or simply delete what is not needed.

·         Know what you are speaking about.  Stay fresh with new topics, but make sure you have all of the facts to back up your purpose and the points you want to get across.

·         Don’t repeat yourself over and over again.  As a veteran Public Speaker you should have an extensive vocabulary.

·         Be confident in your own shoes.

·         Be creative

Competition should be one of your biggest motivators.  Why?  Because competition means you have someone that measures up equally or better up against your skills and or profession.  This should motivate you to be better at what you do and find a niche that keeps you one cut above the rest.  The Public Speaking industry can be very competitive.  This does not mean that you alienate yourself from your fellow public speakers.  Remember never to burn your bridges.  However you want to perfect your platform, and what you do.  Here are several ways to stay one step ahead of the game:

• Have more than one platform.  There are many public speakers that have found themselves more than knowledgeable, skilled and have the training and background to speak about more than one thing.
• Become an author.  Share your wisdom with your audience.  As a published author you are even more legitimized.  Your book is something your audience can take home and share with others, thus creating an even broader listening audience.
• Volunteer your time.  Many speakers do free speaking engagements as a way into the industry or simply because they love what they do and a free speaking engagement is an added bonus.  However there are many organizations that have charity events that your expertise may be warranted.  Take the time to give back.

• Press Release no longer.  When submitting to a TV. Or radio outlet it is best to use Media Release.  Some media professionals may get offended by seeing the words Press Release.  It is an old term.

• Every situation warrants a different approach.  Should you use notes, or should you rely on your memory?  The best answer to this is, use your memory.  After your speech has been thoroughly reviewed and edited continue to practice the main points you want to touch on, and the meaningful parts of your speech.  Even the most seasoned public speakers benefit from continuing to perfect their speech writing skills and delivery.

The art of answering your audience’s questions is simple.  Here are the top 8 tips:

• Take the time to answer quickly with the best answer possible.  Do not spend too much time on one question as it is limited.
• Know your audience.
• Maintain your professionalism and composure.  Never argue with your audience.  That’s a BIG NO, NO.
• Repeat the question to your audience.
• Stop a person that is rambling on.  You don’t have time for someone to gather their thoughts in the middle of their question.  Be polite and stop the rambling.
• If you don’t know the answer that ok.  You are not expected to know everything.  Take the time beforehand to become educated on all possible questions that pertain to your subject.  Always be honest and if you don’t know the answer make sure to let your audience know, without looking like you are unprepared or unknowledgeable.
• Never say that is a good question.  Be creative and not repetitive.  
• Practice makes perfect.
